Remove bolts (11) and carrier (12) from carrier (3).ĩ. Remove the locknut and screw (9) from the retainer assembly.Ĩ. Remove springs (6) and ring (5) from retainer assembly (7).ĥ. Remove ring (4) and the carrier from ring (5).Ĥ. Put downward pressure on carrier (3) when bolts (2) are removed.ģ. Spring force is present behind carrier (3). Install cover (2) and the plug in fuel injection pump housing. If the timing is correct, remove the timing bolt from the flywheel and the timing pin from the fuel injection pump housing. If the timing is not correct, do the procedure in Steps 12a through 12d again.ġ5. Check to see that the timing bolt will go into the flywheel.ġ4. Now turn the flywheel more, in the direction of normal engine rotation, until all gear clearance is removed from the drive train. Now, turn the flywheel in the direction of engine rotation until timing pin (2) drops into slot of pump camshaft. Turn the flywheel clockwise (opposite the direction of normal engine rotation) a minimum of 45°. Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel and tool (B) from the fuel injection pump housing.ġ3. Tighten four bolts (3) to a torque of 55 ± 7 N 1 piston of the engine is now at top center (TC).ĭ. Turn the flywheel slowly in the direction of engine rotation until the timing bolt can be installed in the flywheel. Tighten two bolts (3) 180° apart, evenly to a torque of 3 N The reason for this step is to remove backlash from the timing gears when the engine is put on top center (TC).ī. With tool (B) installed and the timing bolt removed, turn the flywheel clockwise (opposite the direction of engine rotation) a minimum of 45°. Do the steps that follow to adjust the fuel injection pump timing.Ī. If the timing bolt does not go into the timing hole in the flywheel, the timing is not correct. If the bolt can be installed in the timing hole in the flywheel, the timing of the fuel injection pump is correct.ġ2. This removes gear clearance from the drive train. Rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise (as seen from the flywheel end of the engine) until the fuel pump camshaft is tight against timing pin (2). Put the timing bolt in the timing hole in the flywheel housing. Too much pressure on the timing pin can damage the fuel injection pump or the timing pin.ġ1. Slowly rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise (direction of engine rotation) until the timing pin goes into the slot in the fuel injection pump camshaft. Install tool (B) in the fuel injection pump housing as shown. Remove plug (8) from the fuel injection pump housing.ġ0. Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel, and use tool (A) to rotate the crankshaft clockwise (opposite the direction of engine rotation) 45°.ĩ. Make reference to Finding Top Center Compression Position For No. 1 piston at top center on the compression stroke.

Install automatic timing advance (4) on the end of the fuel injection pump camshaft, and install bolts (3) that hold it. (152.4 mm) long guide bolts (7) in gear (5) as shown.ħ. Put gear (5) in position in the front timing gear cover.Ħ. Lubricate seals (6) with clean engine oil.ĥ. NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the automatic timing advance.Ĥ. Remove gear (5) from the front timing gear cover. Remove bolts (3), and remove automatic timing advance (4).ģ. Remove cover (2) from the timing gear cover.Ģ. Remove And Install Automatic Timing Advanceġ.
